Tour de'Loo
I'm going to try to fill in all my photo posts that I have been planning. The first post is for Tour de'Loo which is a night organized to show the community what changes are being made in downtown Waterloo. Downtown Waterloo has been pretty run down for years and in the last 5 years there has been a push to renovate all the old buildings.
I have my sticker on and I'm ready to go!
My hair is pink now!
Waterloo is building a place to serve as a permanent farmer's Market.
It is styled after the Pike Place Market in Seattle. They are trying to get it ready to open next summer.
There was a bridal store on the tour this year. We debated not going into the bridal store (Kris and I don't expect to get married any time soon) but we didn't have to go out of the way to get there so we went in. I found out that a girl I was friends with in college owned the store. I got a chance to catch up with her and she told me that she wasn't surprised at all that my hair was pink. I guess it is all to appropriate for me to have pink hair.
This dress was in the prom dress section of her store. I think I need it - it matches my hair!
At this point in the evening, Kris and I started being silly.
I got cookie crumbs on the architectural drawings.
And then I noticed the table was marked with the name "Big" Tim. I want to meet this "Big" Tim.
I don't know what this business does, but they have the Cobra Guide so it must be something serious.
They also have a large confidential paper shreder.
"Don't dread it, we'll shred it!"
Here is just a set of gratuitous building pictures.

End gratuitous building pictures.
One of the iconic downtown Waterloo buildings is the Black's Building. There was a tea room on the 8th floor. The room was beautiful. Here is a picture of the trim in the tea room.
There was an old sign in the Black's Building about opening a flexible credit account that you don't have to pay in full each month.
This is the main floor of the Black's Building. They are about to remodel it into a bar and restaurant.
Here are a couple pictures of Waterloo.
This is the Cedar River (that flooded this spring). They are doing something to 'fix it' so if we get another flood it won't effect downtown as much.
This picture was taken from the Tea Room in the Black's Building.
More goofing around. There was some graffiti on the bridge over the Cedar River. I <3 Babycakes!
The last stop of the tour was in the Waterloo Center for the Arts and (new) Youth Pavilion. There was a hug exhibit of the work of Steve Gerberich. It was random clusterings of items that moved together. If you visit his web site you can see videos of his art in motion. Here is just a photo I took of one of his pieces.
So we goofed off in the Youth Pavilion for a while.
What? I'm just getting out of my sail boat.
I make mad cash selling produce.
We made it into the newspaper! The girl in the picture with us is the girl I knew in college.
So that was Tour de'Loo. This year wasn't the best set of places to visit, but we met a bunch of people and had a great time.
The End!
xoxo
Carly
